It’s taken a long time to get here. In a week, I turn 38, and my entrepreneurial journey began at 22. I’ve worked across different industries—sometimes just for the money, other times in pursuit of my passions—all while trying to find my true path. But recently, I gained clarity like never before. I now know exactly where I want to be, what I want to do, and who I want to serve—regardless of money.
What I’ve realized is that I was on the right track all along. I just didn’t have the confidence or clarity to market and promote my vision the way I truly wanted. Instead, I tried to fit my ideas into the mold of what others were doing. And because I didn’t see anyone executing it the way I envisioned, I doubted myself. That misalignment led me to severe burnout in 2023.
People don’t talk enough about how deep burnout cuts. I thought it was just exhaustion—that a vacation or a few nights of good sleep would fix it. But I was wrong. Burnout felt like my ambition had put me on "Do Not Disturb." I was consumed by guilt and depression, remembering the version of myself who could grind until the money came in. Now, I felt like a failure, watching projects and responsibilities pile up while my mind and body refused to cooperate.
For eight months, I couldn’t bring myself to open my laptop. The same laptop that had been my lifeline, always within reach, now collected dust. And on the other side of that burnout was nothing—just a quiet void where everything I had built seemed to disappear. I let go of my nonprofit, stopped paying for my magazine’s website, and completely withdrew from branding work. I felt like I had lost everything.
I prayed for clarity. I prayed over my businesses. I asked God to show me the way forward, to bring the right people into my life, and to align my work with my purpose. And slowly, the fog lifted. Duh, because my God is faithful. Anyway, I realized that the only thing I lacked was the knowledge that I lacked nothing. My nonprofit wasn’t a failure—it was a foundation. My magazine and media company weren’t dead—they just needed to evolve. And my passion for personal branding wasn’t misplaced—it simply needed refinement.
This new chapter for me is about rest, restoration, and choosing ease. It’s about trusting God’s timing and allowing Him to guide my steps. I am living proof of what happens when you stop forcing and start flowing—when you let go of the need to control everything and allow the Creator to rebrand your life and business.
If you’re an ambitious entrepreneur, public figure, artist, or creative, I want to encourage you to align your work with your purpose. When your income is rooted in purpose, it shifts everything—it feels different than simply chasing money. That chase never ends. And trust me: rest is essential. Close the laptop. Step away from the grind. Spend time with people who pour into you. Be still. Rest isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. You cannot build, create, or give from an empty cup.
Thanks for attending my TEDTalk lol.
Seriously though, if you're ready to create a life that's softer, fuller, and more fulfilling—where your personal brand generates income aligned with your purpose, and you no longer have to struggle to gain visibility or find community—
Let’s make it happen. 💫
